There is a lot of questions about the 2014 NBA Draft this year. Questions regarding will Wiggins go first? Will it be Embiid? What about Parker? But nobody but the Cavs GM knows, and they may not even know. There was a recent report that Embiid is atop the cavaliers draft chart. That makes a lot of sense if Cleveland truly intends on pursuing LeBron in the offseason. If the Cavs were to use there pick on Embiid in the draft and land LeBron in the offseason then theoretically speaking the Cleveland Cavaliers starting line-up could consist of Irving and Waiters at the guards, James and Thompson at the Forwards, and Embiid manning the middle. Sounds like a pretty intimidating line-up. If the Cavs wanted to give up the fantasy of regaining the king, then they could go with Wiggins, Most likely the most athletic player in the draft, also possibly the highest ceiling. Or possibly Parker, freshman out of Duke. He is said to be the most "NBA ready" player in the draft this year. That may be true, but also what would you rather have? An NBA ready player who could play consistent non flashy but solid 20+ point a night player for 10-15 years, or a dominant, athletic, scoring, and defensive power house like Wiggins could grow too become in the right system? However I am not saying that Parker is not a great player, Parker will be a very good player and have a very successful carrer, I just believe that Wiggins has a higher ceiling. For the Top 10 in this years NBA Draft, there are many suggestions and possibilities, but only one, can go top overall.
Corey Smith's Top 10 mock draft:
1. Cleveland- Joel Embiid/Kansas
2. Milwaukee- Jabari Parker/Duke
3. Philadelphia- Andrew Wiggins/Kansas
4. Orlando- Dante Exum/Australia
5. Utah- Noah Vonleh/Indiana
6. Boston- Doug McDermott/Creighton
7. Los Angeles- Julius Randle/Kentucky
8. Sacramento- Marcus Smart/Oklahoma St
9. Charlotte- Tyler Ennis/Syracuse
10. Philadelphia- Adreian Payne/Michigan St
Payne at 10 is a stretch but theoretically Philadelphia already has taken Wiggins at 3 to fill there SF opening. There is also a rumor that Philadelphia is shopping Thad Young, which if a deal is done could make a lot of sense to take Payne, assuming that the line-up consists of MCW, Jason Richardson, Wiggins, Payne, and Noel. A very young line-up not including J-Rich. The team as a whole may not be incredibly successful year one, but due too the recent struggles in the east it may not be that incredibly difficult to land a playoff berth. Another stretch and even bigger then the Payne stretch is McDermott at 6 to the Boston Celtics. I myself would love to see this pick, He's just too much like Larry legend. McDermott makes a lot of sense at this pick, due to the roster shake up Danny Ainge is aiming to do. If Ainge can move Rondo and Green out, the team could be in worse shape then last year. That may not be a horrible thing for Boston's future though. If they take McDermott at the 6th pick, and make those trades, there in for a bad year, but they would be in for a high pick, preferably higher then 6th overall in 2015. With last years addition Kelly Olynk, and 2012 addition of Jared Sullinger, Boston is locked down low. With the addition of McDermott the Forwards and Center would consist of McDermott and Sullinger at the forwards, and at center Olynk. Assuming Avery Bradley resigns in offseason, Bradley can play point, and Boston can scout next years draft, targeting a SG.
